Our Story

Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic disease in Australia, it is estimated that up to 4 million Australians are living with or at high risk of diabetes. Australia is home to some of the world’s leading diabetes researchers and clinical trials, yet diabetes receives less funding than other chronic conditions.

This is a trend that is getting worse

Over the past 10 years, funding for diabetes research in Australia has fallen by 51% , despite a 32% increase in the number of people living with diabetes.

We’re on a mission to change that.

Established in 2025 by Diabetes Victoria, the Diabetes Innovation and Impact Foundation is a national research foundation dedicated to transforming the lives of people living with diabetes. Governed and administered by Diabetes Victoria, DIIF is committed to enabling groundbreaking research across the country, for the benefit of all Australians.

The Diabetes Innovation and Impact Foundation was launched because we saw a critical gap in funding for translational diabetes research, the kind that takes discoveries from the lab and turns them into real-world solutions. People with diabetes deserve the same rapid advances in treatment that other conditions have seen. The time for action is now.
