Listening to What Matters
That’s why the Low Intensity mental health Support via Telehealth Enabled Network (LISTEN) telehealth program is such a breakthrough.
The LISTEN program, developed by researchers at the Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes (ACBRD) a partnership between Deakin University and Diabetes Victoria, is an evidence-based telehealth initiative designed to support the emotional wellbeing of people living with diabetes.
By offering compassionate conversations with trained health professionals, LISTEN addresses the psychological challenges of managing diabetes.
LISTEN helps people feel heard, supported, and empowered to take charge of both their mental and physical health.
Why LISTEN Matters
For a lot of people living with diabetes, the emotional load can be as heavy as the physical one. Anxiety, burnout, and depression are quite common, yet mental health support can often be hard to access or not tailored to the unique needs of people living with diabetes.
LISTEN changes that.
It brings mental health care directly to people, wherever they are, through telehealth. It’s convenient, and accessible. LISTEN doesn’t just offer advice; it offers empathy and understanding.
Participants report feeling more empowered, more emotionally supported, and better equipped to manage the daily challenges of diabetes.
These findings are backed up by the evidence, A randomised control trial of the program found that it was effective in reducing diabetes distress and improving general emotional well-being. and that these benefits were sustained over 6 months.
It’s a powerful reminder that when we listen, we can make a meaningful difference.
The Power of Research-Backed Innovation
Programs like LISTEN don’t happen by accident. They are the result of dedicated researchers, considered design, and most importantly, critical funding that makes this type of innovation possible.
That’s where DIIF comes in.
The Diabetes Innovation and Impact Foundation (DIIF) was established to enable research like the LISTEN program - research that responds to the needs of the diabetes community, and makes a real difference in people’s lives.
Funds raised by DIIF will be directed to research that bridges the gap between discovery and delivery, making sure that that breakthrough research doesn’t just stay in the lab, but reaches the people who need it the most.
Support the next breakthrough
Imagine what the future could look like if more programs that meet people where they are, were possible. Programs that treat the whole person not just the condition. Research that makes health care more human.
You can help make that future a reality.
By donating to DIIF, you’re helping fund the next innovative research that listens, learns, and leads to better health outcomes.
