The Thread of Innovation

The event showcased what happens when ‘waste’ meets world-class creativity.

As long-standing partners, Diabetes Victoria and the Diabetes Innovation and Impact Foundation (DIIF) were honoured to be in the front row.

Our presence highlighted the ‘why’ behind our partnership. It proved that style and sustainability are directly linked to health.

The partnership operates as a social enterprise venture that uses commercial strategies to achieve social goals. Profits from selling donated items help fund advancements in diabetes research.

“This collaboration is a shared commitment to keeping textiles out of landfills and turn those diverted goods into life-changing health outcomes for people living with diabetes,” says Glen Noonan, DIIF CEO

The Savers Vision: Fashion with a Conscience

The runway featured experimental collections from designers who used only pre-loved items sourced from Savers.

The message was clear, ‘The future of fashion is already in our wardrobes’.

By showcasing these edgy creations, Savers proved that sustainability isn't just a trend, it's a high-performance solution to the global problem of textile waste.

Why We Are Partners

The synergy between a global leader in the ‘Reuse Revolution’ and a health organisation like Diabetes Victoria might seem unexpected, but it is built on a highly effective circular model.

  • The Environmental Impact

Savers provides the infrastructure to give clothing a second life, preventing millions of kilograms of textiles from entering Australian landfills each year.

  • The Health Impact

For every bag of clothing and items donated, DIIF receives funds that go directly toward diabetes research.

Diabetes Innovation Impact Foundation

While Diabetes Victoria has a rich history with Savers in Victoria, the Diabetes Innovation and Impact Foundation (DIIF) takes this impact to a national level.

DIIF focuses on ‘innovation’ in every sense of the word. Not just in medical labs, but in how research is funded.

By aligning with Savers’ national footprint, DIIF helps ensure that the sustainability message reaches beyond Victoria.

When a garment is diverted from a landfill, it contributes to a collective fund that supports the Diabetes Translational Research Fund, accelerating breakthroughs for the 1.5 million Australians living with diabetes.

“As someone living with diabetes, this partnership is personal for me. It’s exciting to see Savers taking such big leaps toward the future. By finding innovative ways to keep clothes out of landfills, they aren't just helping the environment, they are helping fund the work we do at Diabetes Victoria and DIIF.” Joanne, Diabetes Victoria Digital Communications Lead.
